K UTAI KARTANEGARA: Organizers of the Erau Festival, to be held in Tenggarong, the capital of Kutai Kartanegara regency in East Kalimantan, from July 3-10, expect the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) to award them a record for the largest number of people eating from banana leaves. Regency administration spokeswoman Sri Wahyuni said thousands of residents would join a traditional meal served on banana leaves to break the record. “This is a tradition of the Kutai people that we call nasi bekepor,” she said. Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik is scheduled to officially open the festival, which showcases traditional Kutai customs and rituals, on Sunday. — JP
